and then there was a Pineapple...
This Cutie Pineapple quilt was also mailed in for service. I quilted it in spiky layered patterns to echo the hip fabrics and angles of the pieced pineapples.
It's essential that the quilting work compliments the overall design. There is no one size fits all.
Create an Heirloom!
This beautiful quilt was made from a little girl's dresses. Now all grown up, she has this lovely quilt to treasure.
The quilt work here is soft and flowery with big blossoms. Perfect to enhance the large solid blocks of color and add a touch of sentiment to this thoughtful gift from mother to daughter. This was a special one to work on!
A gift from Grandma, many years later
Long ago, a member of Donna's family lovingly made these Dresden Plates out of the leftover fabric from the dresses she made. (Donna says probably around the early 1900's) Now those pieces have been stitched to cream colored backgrounds to make the colors stand out even more and given a classy navy sashing. Once quilted, the Plates became a usable family heirloom quilt that showcases both the original skilled hand stitching and the beautiful vintage fabrics. It was a pleasure to work on this amazing piece.
Red White and Blue
This Star Spangled Beauty is headed on the road with the Rolling Thunder motorcycle club, traveling from DC to Sacramento. This gorgeous quilt was made by my good friend Maureen and long arm quilted at Fletcher's Homemade, to be auctioned off to raise money for Veteran's charities. Good job on those stars, Maureen!
Mom and Daughter Quilts
These two quilts were commissioned by Dave, a sweet guy who sure does love his wife and daughter. We wanted the quilts to be the same pattern but in the colors and personality of each of the two ladies. Mom's was done in shades of blue, purple and yellow with lots of flowers and birds. Quilting stitches were designed in a large blossom pattern. Very sweet. For the daughter we chose a more modern hip blend of black, greys and darker reds. Still feminine with loads of blooms but the quilting stitches here are in a thorny pattern; subtle but adds a bit of edge. Both are backed in flannel to make them cozy. I created these two quilts after lengthy conversation with Dave about his family to get a good feel for their personalities. Loved working on these quilts and hated to see them leave the shop!
